Zig Ziglar (1926-2012) was a well-respected author and speaker. He wrote many best-selling books covering many topics such as selling, success, mindset, and other great business topics.
In many of his incredible speeches, he would ask his audience “If you did have a million-dollar racehorse, how would you treat it, would you let him stay up half the night drinking coffee and booze, smoking cigarettes and eating junk food?” Next question: “Would you treat a 10-dollar dog or a 5-dollar cat that way? What about a billion-dollar body?”
These questions were asked by Zig Ziglar to create awareness in his audience about how they were treating their own precious bodies.
If we are expecting to ‘win at life’ then we should take the necessary steps to take care of our bodies and minds in the best way possible.
So here are some questions to ponder about how you treat yourself:
Do you get (the suggested) 7 hours of peaceful and sound sleep each night? Research shows that if we consistently get 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, we are able to function best in our life and work every day. Another important benefit is that it helps lessen the risk for serious health conditions.
According to health experts, sleep boosts our immune system, helps with our memory, helps manages our weight and much more.
Do you eat more whole foods or highly processed foods? In our ever-busy life, it is so much easier to prepare a quick meal using the more highly processed foods and meals that are available to us. However, eating more fresh fruit and vegetables and other fresh, less processed foods in our regular diet will prove to be better you us.
Do you exercise regularly? Regular exercise is good for both our body and our mind. Whether this is daily or several times per week, regular physical exercise can give us the following benefits. It can improve our muscle strength and boost our endurance, helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to our tissues and it helps our cardiovascular system work more effectively, resulting in us having more energy to tackle our daily chores and workload. These are just some of the benefits to our body when we exercise regularly. But as I mentioned before exercising regularly also helps our mind. For many of us, it helps to make us feel happier, improve our memory and helps us to relax to be able to sleep more soundly.
Do you drink lots of clean water? Our bodies need water to function effectively because all our body’s chemical processes take place in water. Water helps with our digestion, to get rid of our waste products, to regulate our body temperature and to absorb the nutrients from our food. Our body does not function well if we do not hydrate our body everyday and many times during the day.
Do you feed your mind ‘good food’? Keeping a positive mind helps to feed our mind. A healthy mind creates a healthy body and vice versa. So ensure you take actions to keep your mind positive, Some of these actions could include, listening to positive audios or podcasts, staying away from negative gossip and articles, reading positive affirmations regularly, surrounding yourself with positive people and reading inspiring stories and articles.
Do you take time for YOURSELF on a regular basis? This could include meditation, having a massage or just doing things you like to do on a regular basis. This would be different for everyone as this is totally up to the individual.
So, you only have one body and you should treat it like it is worth $1,000,000 or more!
